Kanchenjunga circuit trek takes you into the wilderness of Kanchenjunga Conservation Area covering an area of 2,035 Sq. Km. The area treasures world’s third tallest mountain Kanchenjunga 8586m and mount Jannu 7710m. During Kanchenjunga circuit trek you can see world’s largest glaciers, mountain peaks, lakes, rivers, alpine meadows and pristine forests. You can discover 13 mammal species, 280 bird species and 77 species of vascular plants. You can observe around 3000 species of flora throughout the trail. Kanchenjunga is habitat of rare animals like Snow Leopard, Musk Deer and Red Panda. Birds that can be seen during the trek are Golden Breasted Fulvetta, Snow Cock, Blood Pheasent and Red Billed Chough. You will get an unmatched experience of wilderness and adventure during the Kanchenjunga circuit trek.
DAY 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)
Our representative will pick you up at the international airport and drive you to the hotel. After then you will take a meandering evening walk with your guide through Kathmandu’s heritage sites, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together.
DAY 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
Today you will spend the day discovering medieval Kathmandu. Venture into Pashupatinath and visit Nepal’s largest Buddhist stupa, the Boudhanath Stupa. Later after noon you will visit monkey temple and then stroll around durbar squares in the evening. Overnight stay at hotel near Thamel.
DAY 3: Kathmandu to Taplejung (2,420m/7,938)
Early morning after having breakfast at your hotel your guide will drive you at the airport. You will take a 45 minutes long scenic flight to Bhadrapur which gives the great views of the Himalayas on the north. From Bhadrapur you will take a 8-9 hours bus drive to Taplejung via Illam and Phidim.
DAY 4: Taplejung to Lalikharka (2,265m/7,431ft) : 4-5 hours
Today you will start your trekking through the beautiful forests and villages of eastern Nepal. You will trek through subtropical forests rich in biodiversity and get to Lalikharka for staying overnight.
DAY 5: Lalikharka to Khesewa (2,120m/6,955ft) : 5-6 hours
Early morning after having breakfast you will start trekking downwards to Phundrawa. The trail passes through beautiful forests and scattered farm fields and settlements. After Phundrawa you will trek up to Phumphe Danda and continue further to Khesewa for staying overnight.
DAY 6: Khesewa to Mamankhe (1,785m/5,856ft) : 5-6 hours
Today you will trek through forests, villages and farm fields gazing at numerous snow capped peaks. You will get to Mamankhe for staying overnight.
DAY 7: Mamankhe to Yamphudin (2,080m/6,824ft) : 4-5 hours
You will continue trekking though the scattered settlements and forests by the river Kabeli. On the way you will be accompanied by several water falls. Trekking further you will cross a suspension bridge and get to Yamphudin for staying overnight.
DAY 8: Yamphudin to Tortong (2,995m/9,826ft) : 7-8 hours
You will continue trekking through the villages, farm fields and forests while enjoying the stunning landscape views. You will trek along the river Amji and trek up to Lassiya Bhanjyang. Trekking further you will get to beautiful village of Tortong where you will stay overnight.
DAY 9: Tortong to Cheram (3,870m/12,696ft) : 2-3 hours
You will trek up along the river Simbhuwa and pass through beautiful Lalung valley. From here you can get stunning view of Tuplung peak. You will trek further through dense Rhododendron forest and get to Cheram for staying overnight.
DAY 10: Acclimatization Day
Today you will spend a day in Cheram acclimatizing with the climate. Your guide will take you on day hike to stunning view points of Kabaru and Rathong peaks. You will also explore around the Yalung Glacier.
DAY 11: Cheram to Ramche (4,580m/15,026ft) : 3-4 hours
You will start trekking upward and get to the snout of Yalung Glacier. Afterwards you will pass through the Lapsang village and get to Ramche for staying overnight.
DAY 12: Ramche to Yalung Base Camp (4500m) and back to Cheram : 3-4 hours
You will continue trekking up through the glacier moraine until Kanchenjunga’s southern face comes into the sight. Afterwards you will trek to Oktang monastery and climb Yalung Base Camp. From the base camp you can get the stunning views of mount Jannu, Nyukla and numerous other snow capped peaks. After exploring Yalung base camp you will trek back to Ramche for staying overnight.
DAY 13: Cheram to Sele La (4,290m/14,074ft) : 6-7 hours
Today you will trek crossing Sinelapche pass, Mirgin La pass, Sinion La pass and Sele La pass. You will get amazing views if mountain vistas throughout the trail.
DAY 14: Sele La to Ghunsa (3,595m/11,794ft) : 2-3 hours
You will continue trekking north until the Chhorten with prayer flags from where the trail descends. Further trekking you will descend through beautiful subtropical forest and get to Ghunsa. You will stay overnight in Ghunsa.
DAY 15: Ghunsa to Kambachen (4,050m/13,287ft) : 5-6 hours
After having breakfast in Ghunsa you will trek further north through alpine meadows, forest and cross a landslide area to reach Kambachen. Today along the way you can get stunning views of mount Jannu 7710m and numerous snow capped peaks. You will stay overnight in Kambachen.
DAY 16: Kambachen to Lhonak (4,780m/15,682ft) : 5-6 hours
You will trek along side the river bank crossing a bridge at Ramtang Gompa. Afterwards you will cross another landslide area and reach to Lhonak. You will stay overnight in Lhonak.
DAY 17: Kanchenjunga base camp, overnight at Pangpema (5,143m/16,873ft) : 6-7 hours
Today is the most rewarding day on your trek as you will get to the most awaited Kanchenjunga base camp. Early morning you will trek alongside the massive Kanchenjuga glacier pass by Pangpema monastery and get to Kanchenjunga base camp. Your guide will tell you interesting details about the formation of mountains, glaciers and stones. You can explore the base camp while enjoying the magnificent views of mighty mountain Kanchenjunga and mount Jannu. Afterwards you will get back to Pangpema monastery for staying overnight.
DAY 18: Pangpema to Lhonak 3-4 hours
From today you will start trekking back, on a fairly easy descending trail. Your guide will help you take group pictures along the way making best of the memories. You will stay overnight in Lhonak.
DAY 19: Lhonak to Ghunsa : 6-7 hours
Today you will trek back to Ghunsa passing by Kambachen. Along the way you can get really different perspective of mountains as you are heading opposite direction. You will get the experience of rejoiced spirit while trekking in the wilderness of Kanchenjunga. You will stay overnight in Ghunsa.
DAY 20: Ghunsa to Amjilosa (2,308m/7,572ft) : 5-6 hours
You will trek through Juniper forest crossing several Mani walls and a monastery. Trekking further you will get Phale and descend to Gyabla crossing the river Chhundatangka. Along the way you can get beautiful views of water falls and streams. You will cross a the river Sumbung and get to Amjilosa for staying overnight.
DAY 21: Amjilosa to Chirwa (1,270m/4,166ft) : 6-7 hours
Today you will trek through beautiful village in Solima and cross the river Ghunsa. Trekking further you will again cross rover Ghunsa and get to Sukathum. Along the way you will be accompanied by picturesque landscape containing, settlements beside Thunsa Khola, farm fields, high hills. Afterwards you will cross Tamor Nadi and reach Chiruwa. You will stay overnight in Chiruwa.
DAY 22: Chirwa to Taplejung: 7-8 hours
Today is the last day of your trekking in the remote hills of Taplejung. As you trek from Chiruwa you will get interesting views of people and lifestyle of eastern Nepal. You will stay overnight in Taplejung bazar.
DAY 23: Taplejung to Bhadrapur : 9 hours
From Taplejung you will take a bus drive to Bhadrapur through beautiful villages and marketplace Taplejung. You will cross river Kabeli get to Phidim continue to Ranke, Illam and get to Bhadrapur for staying overnight.
DAY 24: Bhadrapur to Kathmandu
Today you will take a morning flight to Kathmandu. Your guide will drive you from the airport terminal to your hotel. Afterward you can spend the day in leisure or stroll around the city with your guide. In the evening your guide will invite you to join a farewell dinner with the team of Trek Around Himalayas.
DAY 25: Departure
Make the most of your last minutes in Kathmandu with breakfast in a bistro, a city walk, and additionally trinket shopping. Your guide will meet you at your inn and drive you to the airport two hours before the scheduled flight.
